Evensong on Gratitude

New research on how to make your gratitude practice deeper.
Good morning, everyone.
I hope everyone has a serendipitous day. Last night, Dan and I went on the Eldon House ghost tour. We dressed up, and it was great fun. Thinking of spirits, I came across a quote I liked and want to share. I researched this but could not find the author; nonetheless, I committed it to memory. Here it goes: “When your spirituality denies others their humanity, it is not spirituality but hatred wrapped up in religiosity.”
I think Halloween is a time we can let out our inner selves and delve into a little fantasy. We dress up as witches and creatures of the night. I hope when morning breaks we remember that it was fun to be a witch for one day; however, trust that our prejudices do not take over and we forget those who are marginalized. That is part of why I became a Unitarian in the first place. We accept and celebrate diversity.
Happy Samhain, everyone.
Many blessings,
Jerrod Whitman
Board President
The leaves are falling, the air is feeling crisp, and that means it’s time for the annual fall services auction! Our inclusive live services auction will be held on November 23rd, with doors opening at 5:00.
The theme this year is “Let’s do the Time Warp again!” We will be celebrating with games and decorations from times gone by. Please dress up in styles from your favorite decade. It’s time to break out those poodle skirts, bell bottom jeans or go-go boots.
We’re pleased to announce a return to the live action format with Mark Konrad agreeing to be our auctioneer for the evening.
This is always a fabulous event, and to make it work we need your help! We need you all to put forward services for others to bid on. In the past, services have included baked goods, pottery classes, tarot readings, yard maintenance help, and tech help. The possibilities are endless.
On the day of the auction, members are strongly encouraged to contribute their most generous donation. However, a donation of any amount will mean you will get 600 unibucks to spend on the services of your choice.
We’ll also need volunteers to help on the day and before including people to prepare food, set up, and tear down. There will be sign up sheets available on the day, however if you already know you would like to volunteer for something specific, please contact Jen at jennifer.sadler@gmail.com.
Greetings Unitarian Fellowship of London,
Unicamp extends its deep gratitude to Yvette Salinas, for her valued contributions to the leadership of Unicamp, upon her decision to leave the role of Executive Director.
In a farewell message, Yvette writes: “Dear Unicamp Community, it has been an honour to serve as Executive Director at Unicamp, but now the time has come for me to pass the leadership role on. I have appreciated the opportunity to grow as a person by meeting the challenges a charitable organization faces, learning to appreciate and collaborate with my staff, and engaging with the spirituality found in nature. Though I pass the baton of leadership on, I will always love the UC community.”
We ask for the community’s assistance in the immediate search for and hiring of a new E.D. by sharing this job posting.

We will reserve a time on November 13 to walk or climb together as a Team. Transport will be organized for those who need a drive to the venue. Registration is $25/person on-line. Members of the Social Justice Network will assist in registering anyone who doesn't have on-line access. We will also do our best to help anyone who would like to participate but is financially unable to pay the full fee. Participants are encouraged to attract sponsors in their own networks, e.g., friends, relatives, other residents in apartment buildings or neighbourhoods, etc.
This is one more opportunity for members and friends of the UFL to "act in the world", foster collegiality, and improve visibility of the Fellowship within the larger community.

The UFL Book Club has been around for 38 or 39 years, just slightly more than half of the ULF's existence. The UFL Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month from 2-4 pm. The UFL Book Club's most recent meeting was on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, 2-4 pm, in-person, at the UFL. It was a small group who were able to attend as it occurred the day after Thanksgiving. The book discussed was 'The Most Precious Substance on Earth' by Shashi Bhat. Reports were of a good meeting with varying attitudes with respect to whether each individual member had enjoyed the book.
Muriel distributed the November book, 'Runaway Wives and Rogue Feminists: The Origins of Women's Shelters Movement in Canada' by Margo Goodhand at the October meeting. Our November meeting will be on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, 2-4 pm, hopefully and most likely in-person at the UFL.
If you are interested in joining the UFL Book Club please contact me, Alice Wehlau, the coordinator of the Book Club. I hope to hear from you.
