The Nature of Conciousness
Service and Worship Leader: Bob Harrington
Scientific discussion about the nature of consciousness is gradually getting closer to the mystic understanding. To quote Scientific American magazine some scientists have “embraced a form of panpsychism and even suggested that individual particles might be somehow aware”. That is consciousness is present everywhere and our brain makes use of it.
Spiritual teachers believe that three basic concepts are necessary to make sense of this and they are all reflected in a deep understanding of Unitarian Universalism and Christianity too. They are that consciousness supports everything that exists and it evolves in the individual through reincarnation and karma.
These three doctrines support our hope in the further evolution of life and promise amazing and beautiful discoveries and changes as our society continues to evolve.
My refection will develop these ideas and strengthen our hope, faith and love.
Don’t forget there is a Potluck this Sunday. Bring a dish or if you can’t we still have lots of food!

Hope: What’s your Symbol?
Service and Worship Leader: Laura-Beth Falter
Humans use symbols to create shared understanding, form identities and build social structures. Our ability to communicate complex, abstract ideas through symbols has been a key to our success as a species. Symbols of hope express humanity's resilient belief in a better future and our capacity to achieve it. In this service, we'll explore some enduring representations of hope, including ancient, modern and uniquely Canadian symbols.
