From Our Director of Congregational Life

Hi everyone, what a beautiful fall we have had. Time to think about outside clean up – leaves and such.

This month we are having a special speaker, Judith Fisher, representing the groups Climate Action London, Greening Sacred Spaces and  Greening Health. On Sun. Oct. 27, Brian Keith will lead a service focussing on Justice as it pertains to our Environment. Special guest  I look forward to her presentation. She had a booth at our rhubarb fest if she looks familiar.

On November 30, there will be a sermon writing seminar with Dr. F. Wooden who spoke to us last year. Dr. Wooden is going to give a sermon on Sunday December 1st that I know we will all enjoy.

Alas I will not graduate this December but in January. I have too much on my plate right now and have had to drop Biblical Greek as many have heard me bemoan as very difficult. Not to worry, I will graduate at the end of Spring 2025, and as Rabbi Brian said(my internship is with his Religion Outside the Box ministry) I am old enough that doing one more semester really does not matter!

We have a very busy fall and early winter planned with our annual fundraising and maybe, a trivia night if we can get it together. The Friday Frolic and Tree trimming will happen on December 6, 2024 and we invite all adults and children to take part.

Again, thanks to all for your support and caring. That is what it is all about. I am here if anyone needs me and can be reached at 519-859-1640 or lorisotte@gmail.com

From Your Board Secretary

October is shaping up to be a busy month at UFL!

After our potluck service on October 6th, we will be hosting a volunteer fair where members of various committees will be available to answer your questions about how to get involved in church life.

We will also be having a “work party” on Saturday October 19, which is a drop in event running from 9:00am to 4:00pm, where we will put in a bit of elbow grease to make minor repairs to the building, tidy the garden, and organize and clean up some of our back rooms. It will be a time for socializing as well as working, so don’t miss out on the comradery and pride in a job well done.

I also want to bring to your attention to our second movie night, which will be happening Saturday October 26, with doors opening at 6:00 and the moving starting at 6:30. Stay tuned for more info as we get closer to the event!

Finally, if you have any interest in helping to organize a UFL Trivia Night, please send me an email at jennifer.sadler@gmail.com. I’d love to hear from you!

UFL Book Club – The Most Precious Substance on Earth by Sasha Bhat

The UFL Book Club has been around for 38 or 39 years, just slightly more than half of the ULF's existence. The UFL Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month from 2-4 pm. Our next meeting will be on October 15, 2024, 2-4 pm, most likely in-person, at the UFL. The book we will be reading and discussing in October is 'The Most Precious Substance on Earth' by Sasha Bhat.

I would like to say thank-you to all the members who were able to make it to our inaugural 2024-2025 UFL Book Club meeting on Tuesday Sept. 17th. A few of our members could not make it including myself, Alice. Many members contributed in many ways to ensure the meeting occurred. All reports were that the meeting was a success. The UFL Book Club is a group of wonderful Unitarians.

If you are interested in joining the UFL Book Club please contact me, Alice Wehlau, the coordinator of the Book Club. I hope to hear from you. My contact information is as follows:  Alice Wehlau, Email alice.wehlau@gmail.com, Telephone (519) 619-2127.
